Who am I?I am from College Station, TX. However, Waco has been my home for the last 4 years as I recently graduated from Baylor University with a degree in Film and Digital Media and a minor in Business Administration. As part of my degree program, I completed a semester-long internship in New York City with a post-production company that colors and edits ads and feature-length films for clients. After graduation I pursued learning drone technology to increase my marketable skills. I have earned my commercial Part 107 Drone license, which permits me to capture video footage from angles not available to conventional, on-the-ground videographers and to use my editing skills to create final products for my clients. My long-range plan includes entering a career field where I can use my education and skills in media technologies to help my clients advance their missions. |
Media - What Started as a Hobby
I have been cultivating an interest in media since childhood. At age 11, I bought my first video camera and spent countless hours learning how to use it properly. I also taught myself how to use video editing software to create interesting video products. Much of this learning resulted from spending my free time making movies, including writing scripts, filming, and editing, adding a variety of short-film genres to my personal library. Some of these movie projects have resulted in work I am proud of, and some are quite amateur, but all have contributed to my learning experience. My first films included doing skits with my friends, but more advanced projects included technology reviews and “unboxings” (important to people who want to learn more about a new product, especially a product that just hit the market). I created a YouTube channel to host my video productions. Viewer “hits” to my YouTube unboxing videos earned me money through the advertising received from Google Adsense, teaching me how to apply my creative and technical skills to produce something people can use and that advertisers value. With my improved video skills, I now have a total of over 75,000 views on just one of my YouTube channels. Please see Raisor Productions, my YouTube channel where I host all of my short films and film projects.
Media - The Focus of my Formal Education
This early interest in media influenced my decision to attend Baylor University, where graduates from the Department of Film & Digital Media Studies have produced several box office successes, such as The Blind Side and Saving Mr. Banks and hit television series, including Chicago Fire. Excited to learn from the best in the media production industry, I eagerly applied to this program where I would learn theoretical knowledge as well as technical production skills, all needed to develop as a professional. This program provided me experience in script writing, storyboarding, shooting, directing, lighting, and editing. The program also granted me an internship opportunity through their Baylor in New York Program. This allowed me to gain real-world experience while remaining a student.
Media - A Career Path
My formal education at Baylor and the “other education” acquired through numerous media and music activities, have fueled my desire to grow as a media professional. I recently earned my drone pilot’s license to increase the kinds of products I can offer future clients. My next step is to find professional employment where I can apply my creativity, discipline, and technical skills to help clients advance their organizational or entrepreneurial mission.
